Best formations in LaLiga 38-0

LaLiga 38-0 lets you pick from nine tactical systems before the season starts — and switch formation between matches from the lineup editor. This guide covers all nine, their strengths and when to use each, so you get the most out of your legends eleven on the road to 38-0.

How tactics work in the game

Each formation defines the pitch slots and which positions each slot accepts. A player in their natural (or a compatible) position performs at 100%; playing them out of position triggers a warning and cuts their performance — up to -28% in an opposite line. That's why there is no universal "best" formation: it's the one that fits the natural positions of the players you got in the draft.

Tactics also affect fatigue: a cautious approach, combined with good physicals and chemistry, limits freshness loss across the 38 matchdays.

The 9 formations, one by one

4-3-3 — Width and wingers

The attacking classic. Two wide wingers stretch the opposition defence while a centre-forward pins the centre-backs. Pick it if your draft gave you strong RW/LW options (Messi, Vinícius, Lamine Yamal…). It's the most popular starting system.

4-4-2 — Balanced block

Solid at both ends, with two strikers and two banks of four. Pick it if you have two quality STs (Benzema + Lewandowski, say) and few natural wingers.

4-2-3-1 — Free playmaker

A double pivot shielding the defence and a CAM roaming between the lines. Pick it if your best player is an attacking midfielder (Zidane, Bellingham, Griezmann) and you want play to run through him.

3-5-2 — Attacking wing-backs

Three centre-backs, wing-backs owning the flanks and two strikers. Pick it if you have very attacking full-backs (Roberto Carlos, Dani Alves, Carvajal) and two reliable forwards.

3-4-3 — High press

A very aggressive system with attacking superiority and a counter-press. Pick it if your squad is clearly above average and you want to win big; it's risky against legendary opponents of similar level.

5-3-2 — Low block with wing-backs

Five defenders and counter-attacking outlet. Pick it to close out games and seasons: when protecting top spot in the final matchdays or facing a much stronger opponent on Legend difficulty.

4-1-2-1-2 — Narrow diamond

Inside play, no wingers: a pivot, two central midfielders, a playmaker and two strikers. Pick it if your midfield is your great strength (Xavi, Iniesta, Modrić, Kroos) and you lack natural wide players.

4-3-2-1 — Christmas tree

A variant with two playmakers behind a lone striker. Pick it if you have two elite CAMs and only one reliable ST.

4-5-1 — Dense midfield

Five midfielders to suffocate the opponent and a striker holding the line. Pick it if you need control and possession to neutralise stronger squads.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best formation in LaLiga 38-0?

There is no single best formation: 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 are the most balanced systems for most squads, but the best choice depends on the natural positions of the players you drafted.

Can I change formation during the season?

Yes. Between matches, in the lineup editor, you can pick another formation and your players are re-placed automatically by position; you can then rearrange them by hand.

What happens if I play someone out of position?

A player outside their natural position gets flagged with a warning and their match performance drops — up to -28% in an opposite line. Compatible positions for each slot perform at 100%.
